The worst experience I’ve ever had hosting a dog….
And a special offer for Oct and Nov ✨
When I first decided to make D|B Dens dog-friendly, I braced myself for the worst. Torn-up furniture? Accidents on the rugs? I had a running list of disasters in my head.
So what’s actually been the worst dog experience I’ve had hosting?
A little too much (okay a lot too much) dog hair on the couch and bed. That’s it.
And I should note that my Den Keeper is incredibly patient and diligent (and treated well) to make sure it’s all gone for the next guests. 🐾
Why I Chose to Be Dog-Friendly
I’ve always had dogs. My current pups, Poppy and Rowdy, are basically part of everything we do. So, when I started hosting cabins, I couldn’t imagine creating a space where people would have to leave their dogs behind.
That said, I was nervous at first. But over time, I realized something funny: the real culprits when it comes to scuffs, spills, or “oops” moments aren’t usually dogs. They’re… humans and kids 😅. No shame because I have littles ones myself and I get it!
Pour Into the Experience, Get Respect Back
One thing I’ve noticed is that the more you pour into the experience for dog families, the more they respect your home. When a guest shows up and sees the beds, the poop bags, the frisbee, and yes, even the branded treat canisters and bowls…they feel cared for.
And when you feel cared for, you treat the space with care in return.
I hear it in reviews all the time:
🐶 “Made traveling with our dog so easy.”
🐶 “Our pup loved it as much as we did.”
🐶 “We didn’t have to pack half our house.”
That’s the exact experience I want guests to have.
Why It Matters
Vacations are about family, and for so many of us, dogs are just that… our family. The hikes are better with them. The snow days are more fun. The hot tub is cozier when they’re snoring nearby.
Dogs don’t take away from the cabin experience … they add to the magic.
